All counsellors need supervision. This can be offered on a one to one basis or in a group. Professional bodies require that the work of a counsellor is supervised.
Supervision protects clients by involving the supervisor in the work of a counsellor and client. This will help to reduce the risk of oversight and help the counsellor concerned to reflect on their own feelings, thoughts, behaviour and general approach with the client.

The art of supervision depends on the ability of the supervisor to encourage the best from the counsellor for the benefit of the clients of that counsellor.
